Blown away! Totally.
NYC was woah~ 4D3N was not enough. Definitely not enough.
We went to... United Nations HQ, Herald Square, Rockefeller Center, Chinatown, South Street seaport, Brooklyn bridge, Times Square (caught The Phantom of the Opera!! =D), Statue of Liberty and Ellis island, Wall Street and the rest of the Financial District including Ground Zero.
And then i roamed Essex Street, Grand Central Terminal, and Fifth Avenue.
Photo updates will come later. Very much later. Heh. Cos we're going off to DC soon. And considering the fact that i have yet to update on Williamsburg, Maymont park, and BLUE RIDGE MOUNTAIN, NYC update is bleak. But think i'll update on NYC first and then clear the backlog later, cos NYC was fanta-bulous.

Boo
Minrui is here to blog coz she missed the shuttle bus to work, again! Rawrs. The first time she missed it, she was late for work for about 10-20min. The second time she missed it, it was an earlier bus that she wanted to take to reach earlier, so it was okay. Today she's supposed to attend some training, which she can make up for on Saturday. But Saturday is her off day. And minrui doesn't want to attend it on other days alone!! Boo. Anyway i'm off to catch the next bus! Toodles.

The halfway mark
It's been one month! Four weeks plus almost five. And minrui is starting to miss SG food! For the first few weeks people wanted to go eat Chinese buffet and minrui was like, "It's only been 1+week, i'm not missing sg food YET." But now i want to eat spinach, steamed fish, and drink soup! 黑鸡汤、咸菜汤、苦瓜汤、西洋菜汤、老黄瓜汤！Rawrs.
Anyway, a typical day (for minrui) goes like this:
As you can see, our hobby is running. Every day we run to catch the shuttle bus to and fro work. But running is only our number two hobby. Our number one hobby is walking. (Remember minrui's entry on Willow Lawn? That's only ONE of the places we've walked.) Sirong says that the amount of distance she had walked is enough to cover the whole of SG. Our legs are our trusty source of transportation. Most people here drive. But now gas prices is high so many of them take bus. But we're not sure of the bus routes and we're too stingy to spend $1.25 on bus fare. So we walk, walk, walk, walk, and walk.
And then we become very aunty here. We compare the prices across the different supermarkets! What to do? No money! And we go grocery shopping like twice a week. Minrui is sick and tired of grocery shopping! But we can't help it, cos we need to constantly replenish our supply of milk and bread, since bread is a perishable and we have no space in our fridge to buy more milk at one go.
Minrui is sick and tired of doing laundry too. She washes her clothes everyday!! When the rest only wash their clothes like once every two or three days! (And minrui hand wash while most of the rest use washing machine.) Cos minrui wears bathing suit (swimsuit) to work and she finds it very disgusting to repeatedly wear it without washing. Minrui's mum must be so surprised to find out that she is actually a clean freak! Hurhur. Minrui is a pig! Cos people normally think of pigs as dirty when in fact they are quite clean! But tomorrow minrui is going to wear what she wore today, cos she intelligently forgot to hang her other set of clothes up to dry so it is still wet.
And after one month in US minrui has one thing to say about discrimination against the blacks: 冰冻三尺非一日之寒. And minrui shall 点到为止 cos this kind of thing 只可意会不可言传 (and winnie just learnt this phrase a few weeks ago, who would have thought that people come US to improve their mandarin!)
And minrui just got pangseh-ed by the fellowship-ers (who all came back late!) cos her neighbour (=winnie) told them that minrui was sleeping when these few days minrui has been sleeping at 2+ 3+am and it's not even 1am now (and for that matter at the time when she told them it was even earlier). Rawrs. But minrui is not angry with winnie for giving wrong info, minrui is angry with the fellowship-ers who pangseh-ed her! (Cos they conveniently missed tuesday's too.) Angweeeeee!
Minrui thinks that this entry is very complain-y and she shall just stop here. Another 5 weeks of work!

- minrui's hp alarm rings
- sirong is awakened and she calls minrui
- minrui finally wakes up and she stops the alarm
- minrui falls back to sleep OR whines about not wanting to wake up
- sirong gets up to wash up

- eat breakfast, pack lunch, change into work attire
- catch the shuttle bus to work (minrui missed the bus twice so far, and both times it's not cos she couldn't wake up but cos she thought she had a lot of time and was chatting with sirong -.-)
- 30-40min to play in the theme park before starting work proper (minus the time taken to walk to our workplace, it's just nice for 2 rides. Can squeeze 3 rides if we run from ride to ride.)
- reach workplace, clock in, apply sunblock, open the ride (fill the water container, check stuff..)
- spend the day at different positions, without much time to go toilet
- all the time yearning for the 30min break (which normally comes anytime between 1pm and 4pm, but can sometimes come at crazy times too)
- close ride (clean up), clock out
- run for the shuttle bus OR if we just missed the bus, run to play rides in the theme park and then run to catch the next bus
- normally minrui is back before winnie and sirong (about 1-2h earlier)
- bathe and then eat or if tired and hungry, eat first
- surf the net while having dinner
- sirong comes back and whines, "minrui~~~" and minrui goes -.- "what?" and it will be about tiredness, hungriness, or mean supervisor
- if minrui has yet to bathe, she bathes when the two come back, which means there's music while bathing (nothing to do with the two, there's another girl who sings! Oh cos when the two come back, it's when the rest of the people staying in this level come back. This pretty much means that minrui bathes and eats all by herself most of the time.)
- discuss our nyc/dc/west coast trips OR research on places to visit OR chatting (and bitching) with our level people OR go one level down to chat (and bitch) OR surf net and chat on msn OR come here and blog
- do laundry
- sleep

Science Museum & Willow Lawn
Yes smoke from the microwave! From the room beside winnie's, and winnie's room is right opposite minrui's (and sirong's). And minrui is supposed to go bathe after one whole day of walking under the hot sun but our level is stinkyyyyyy (there's the smoke smell) and minrui is a tad too lazy to go other levels to bathe. So i shall blog! Muahaha..

自拍。。In the mirror, there's another me looking into a mirror, and in that mirror there's yet another me looking into a mirror...... You get the idea.
Another mirror thing. Something like the mirror is between us yet we can see each other and of course our own reflection.
Ames room!! i see the room in my textbook, i know the logic behind the optical illusion, and now i'm in the room! :))
So high, i can't reach!
Minrui is a giant!! (She ate the mushroom mario gave her!)
Rat basketball training! It's about operant conditioning!! Training the rats step by step to play basketball by rewarding them with food. There's two rats in the tank. See the shadow to the left and on top of the rat? It's the other rat going through the basketball hoop.
Demonstration on phase changes using liquid nitrogen. Though it's about boring stuff like solid, liquid, and gaseous states, how come we don't have this kind of stuff in school when we learnt these?!? They make learning fun!!
Last but not least, winnie doing the moonwalk!!

Social Security + Bank of America + Krispy Kreme + Willow Lawn
As winnie was sick and we went to the hospital (i know i have yet to blog about it but the photos are in sirong's phone), we didn't manage to do our social security. But we didn't want to wait till the next session cos we wanted to open a bank account so that our paycheck can go in. Hence we walked from our dorm to the place..
After which we walked to Bank of America. Turned out that we don't need a social security number to open bank account.
We asked where the bathroom was and they pointed us to.....
This is the safe deposit vaults behind the door shown above and down a flight of stairs. Reminds me of Jumper, which i watched on the flight here.
And then the three of us walked all the way to Krispy Kreme so that winnie could get ONE donut -.-

Willow Lawn was just a few blocks down from KK.
We went Old Navy to shop. Minrui's purchase: 2 dresses and 3 tops.
And there's a bookstore there with pretty good price. Was very tempted to buy these (and Bleak House by Charles Dicken but i decided that it is too chim for me)..
But i restrained myself and bought only 3 books. (Since when minrui is such a bookworm??) The third book is scary, i know.
And then we went Kroger to do grocery shopping (again). We're doing grocery shopping like twice a week? Zzzzzzz. This is sirong and her strawberries.
And after one long day of walking we bused back!! (Our first bus in Richmond, i THINK. The previous one was in LA?) But our hands were full with groceries so no photos of that. It was dark anyway.
Okay it's past 2am and i'm off to zzz. Goodnight world.

fire alarm at rhoads hall...
i bet no one wanna know what happened today.
it was madness day.
1st, we walked to Hollywood cemetery under the hot sun. and wondering around aimlessly like dingdongs under the hot sun.
2nd, we went to maymont part and continued to hang around under the sun looking at some stupid garden which was practically not totally ugly but simply not worth the time and trouble and effort and sunburn!
3rd, i came home totally sun burned!
4th, sirong broke her slippers that she had to walk back to VCU barefooted.
5th, fire alarm went in Rhoads Hall simply because 1612 had their microwave giving out HOT SMOKE. i was utterly shocked la. 5 fire engines came to realise there was no fire. PHEW! =) luckily everything is fine. at least my stuffs were fine. just looks abit stupid hanging around monroe park.
pictures of the wonderful fire engines will come later. these fire engines are freaking efficient!! haha.

Williamsburg Prime Outlet Mall
okay today we went to Williamsburg prime outlet mall.
things didnt begin off well. coz the car i supposedly rented didnt arrive and whole load of crap came along with it. luckily daryl settled it and we got the car in the end, albeit at a higher price.
went to walmart before we came back = winnie got her pillow to act as a bolster! *is totally happy* and winnie bought teriyaki instant noodles! and also pork flavoured instant noodles!! and more frozen food diners. and 1 box of strawberries. somehow walmart was enjoyable! ;D
winnie's loot that good...and i didnt really see something that i would say that i die die die die must buy. its always things that are either cheap but not the best fitting, cheap but not the best design, expensive but nice, not worth the money but nice, unnecessary cheap clothes etc. so yar. today what i bought aint necessary what i need totally. somehow it didnt feel as enjoyable as my VCC trip when i got my 2 victoria secrets sleeptees. that was something i really wanted and really needed at a ok price.
anyway, lets see what i bought today..
2 nike tops (for brother) - 23.08 USD [BOA]
1 tank & 1 v neck tee polo ralph lauren (for mum & self) - 29.38 USD [CASH]
